Frequently Asked Questions

Location and Times

  • The Conference is taking place on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th November 2024. There is also a Welcome Event planned for the evening of Friday 15th November.

  • All Conference activities are taking place at the Metropole Hotel & Spa, Temple Street, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5DY.

We would encourage you to consider travelling to Conference by public transport, using either the rail or TrawsCymru bus networks. We have prepared a Getting to Conference information page to help you plan.

  • If travelling to Llandrindod on the Friday why not arrive in time for the welcome party which starts at 7pm. You will need to have bought a ticket to attend the event.

The start time for the Conference is 10am on the Saturday and slightly later, at 10:15am, on the Sunday.

We would advise you to arrive no more than half an hour before the Conference begins. If you arrive earlier we may ask you to wait in the hotel lobby area. You can of course arrive after the Conference has started if you prefer.

  • There will be stewards near the venue entrance to direct you towards the Conference area of the hotel.

When you first arrive please head to the Registration Desk. If you've already registered you can pick up your Conference Badge there. Otherwise you'll be able to register when you arrive. On the day registration for members costs £45 (£25 concessions). Please have the correct money ready as we may not be able to give change.

You will need to wear your Conference Badge while at the venue so please remember to bring it back with you if you leave at any point, including when you return on Sunday.

  • You can leave the Conference at any point (and return again) if you want to. Just remember to bring your Conference badge with you when you return.

We expect the Confernece to come to an end at 5pm on the Saturday, and at 3pm on the Sunday.

  • If an issue arises before Conference, e.g. you are not able to attend due to illness, please email conference@libdems.wales or telephone 07714 975021.

If at Conference please go to the registration desk or find a member of staff or a steward.

Registration

  • Everyone attending the Conference has to register. Members can do so online or by downloading a registration form and bringing it with you, along with the correct money, on the day.

  • To ensure that everyone is able to attend Conference members are welcome to bring their children with them. However, please bear in mind that the Conference may not be the most interesting event for children.

There will be no childcare provided and all children will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.

  • This is an option that the Conference Committee is looking at providing for future conferences, but it is not available for this Conference.

Some elements of the Conference will be recorded and shared on the party's social media channels.

  • You can register online at any time leading up to Conference and over the weekend itself. Alternatively, you can download a paper form, print it off and comelete it, and bring it with you, along with the correct money, on the day. We're unable to take card payment on the day other than through the online registration portal.

  • The cost for party members to register is:

    • £45 - Standard Registration
    • £25 - Concessions

There are no discounts for only attending a part of the Conference.

  • The concession rate is available to party members who are under 18, full-time students or on benefits.

  • The registration desk will be open from 9:30am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday until the last debate finishes on each day.

  • Registrations are non-refundable. However we do allow member registrations to be transfered to another member, and observer registrations to be transfered to another observer. Please email conference@libdems.wales to request a transfer.

Members of the General Public and those representing organisations are welcome to attend and observe the Conference.

What's on at Conference

  • The Conference Agenda, including the motions selected for debate and amendments, is available on the party's website.

  • The motions debated at the Conference have been put forward by party members, with the Conference Committee deciding which will be debated. These can be found in the Conference Agenda.

There are two slots on the Agenda for Emergency Motions, which members are invited to submit.

Emergency Motions can be either policy or business motions but must be based on an issue that has arisen, or an event which has occurred, since 6th November 2024. They should be brief and no more than 250 words.

Emergency Motions may be submitted by Local Parties, the Welsh Party Board or Welsh Party Committees, or 20 members of the Welsh Liberal Democrats.

The deadline for Emergency Motions based on an issue that has arisen before Conference is 10am on Saturday 16th November. If however an issue arises during Conference, a motion may be submitted up until 11am on Sunday 17th November.

The text of the motion should be emailed to conference@libdems.wales giving the name of the local party, committee or members who are submitting the motion. The name of the members who will be speaking to the motion at the Conference, both proposing and summating, should also be given in the submitting email.

  • We have produced a guide on how to speak and vote at Conference.

  • The Conference kicks off on the Friday night with a party hosted by Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe Lib Dems to welcome everyone to their constituency and to say thank you for the help given during the General Election campaign.

Throughout the Saturday and Sunday there will be a number of breakout and training sessions as well as an exhibition with stands from a number of organisations.

The Conference Dinner is taking place on Saturday evening, starting at 7:30pm. Members can but tickets online.
