Working For: David Chadwick MP (Brecon Radnor and Cwm Tawe)

Start date: The successful candidates will be invited to start as soon as possible 

Location: Within constituency (based in either Brecon or Pontardawe office)

Salary: IPSA recommended scales (starting at £26,039)

Length of Contract: Permanent subject to 6 months’ probation

Job Details: David Chadwick MP is looking for an enthusiastic & hardworking Caseworker (part-time & flexible hours will be considered) to deliver timely, relevant advice to Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe's residents. Candidates will ideally have experience of a busy office, have exceptional verbal & written skills and be excellent at communicating with the public.

Job Requirements: 

  • Assist with surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
  • Engage professionally, confidentially with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, emails and face to face
  • Ensure all cases are logged; monitor progress and ensure all identified actions are taken
  • Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with data protection legislation
  • Gather relevant information to resolve or progress cases
  • Liaise with Government agencies, voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
  • Manage a large caseload of cases, working in a professional, confidential, caring and sensitive manner
  • Provide briefings for the MP
  • Respond professionally, sensitively, confidentially and with integrity to routine correspondence and enquiries by email, telephone, social media and face to face from constituents
  • Take initial action on queries from members of the public, including responding on behalf of the MP as appropriate
  • There may be requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal hours and travel for work occasionally

Required experience:

  • Experience working in a busy office environment - ideally for an elected representative, as a caseworker or in a customer service role
  • Effective organisation, planning and presentational skills with the ability to work flexibly and juggle a range of tasks
  • Polite, confident and empathetic approach to public engagement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle difficult or emotive situations in a sensitive manner
  • Highly motivated and well organised - able to prioritise & respond to a high volume of diverse work
  • Interest and willingness to learn about relevant casework areas e.g. welfare, pensions
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats 

Desirable

  • An understanding of current affairs and issues of relevance to the constituency 
  • The ability to communicate in Welsh 

Upon appointment, you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office.
