Step-free access for Lower Sydenham station

Lower Sydenham station has step-free entrances to both platforms, but there is no step-free route between them inside the station.

We walked and timed the step-free journey from the Platform 1 entrance on Westerley Crescent to the Platform 2 entrance at Station Approach/Purbeck Gardens.

It took the best part of 15 minutes.

For passengers who can use the stairs, the other platform is just across the tracks. But wheelchair users, disabled and older passengers, people with limited mobility and parents with pushchairs can face a lengthy detour through surrounding streets.

That isn’t equal access.

We are calling on the Government, Network Rail and Southeastern to prioritise Lower Sydenham station for Access for All funding and deliver a practical step-free route between its platforms.

Everyone should be able to use their local railway station safely and independently.

Please sign our petition and help us make Lower Sydenham station accessible to everyone.
