Give Councils Powers to Install Speed Cameras

We’re calling on the Government to let councils install speed cameras on local roads — and reinvest fines into safer, better streets. Currently, only the police and Transport for London can act, and limited resources mean speeding near homes, schools, and busy junctions often goes unchecked. Residents know where the problems are, but councils lack the power to respond. 

This isn’t about punishing drivers - it’s about protecting communities. Councils should be able to install speed cameras where residents raise concerns; and reinvest the fines locally on highways upgrades, road safety initiatives and school travel schemes.
