Step-free Lower Sydenham station
Petition for Step-Free Access at Lower Sydenham Station
Lower Sydenham station has step-free entrances to both platforms, but there is no step-free route between them within the station.
For passengers who can use the stairs, the other platform is just a short walk away. However, wheelchair users, disabled and older passengers, people with limited mobility and parents with pushchairs face a lengthy detour through surrounding streets.
This alternative route can take between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on mobility, and involves navigating a very narrow pavement beneath a railway bridge and a poorly lit park.
This is not a safe, accessible or practical alternative for passengers who need step-free access. Everyone should be able to use their local railway station safely and independently.
We, the undersigned, call on the Government, Network Rail and Southeastern to prioritise Lower Sydenham station for Access for All funding and deliver a safe, direct, step-free route between its platforms.
