Lord Mike German
Lord German, Lords Spokesperson for Rehabilitation and Probation
Mike entered the House of Lords on 29 June 2010 and was appointed Party Treasurer in December 2015.
He was previously a member of the National Assembly for Wales for the South Wales East region (1999-2010) and was the Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats from 2007-2008.
Mike served as Deputy First Minister of Wales during the Labour-Liberal Democrat coalition between 2000 - 2003 and also held the positions of Economic Development Secretary and later Minister for Rural Affairs and Wales Abroad.
Prior to becoming a National Assembly Member, Mike had served as a Cardiff Councillor since 1983 and was Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats on the City Council between 1983–1996 and joint leader of the Council from 1987 to 1991. In 1996 he was awarded an OBE for his public and political service.
Between 2015 and 2016 he was the Liberal Democrat Work and Pensions Spokesperson. In October 2016 he was appointed Lords Spokesperson for Rehabilitation, Probation and Prison Reform.
German's political interests include skills development in small and large companies in Wales, constitutional affairs, local government, economy and regeneration.
