As UN talks in Montreal on climate change reach their final crucial phase, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary Norman Baker MP said:
In a keynote speech on climate change to an audience of Liberal Democrat members, NGOs and environmental publications, Charles Kennedy highlighted the difference between the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives on the issue of the environment following David Cameron's assertion that the parties now agree:
The debate on future energy policy for the UK was thrown open this week at the start of the public phase of the Government's Energy Review. But sceptical voices were asking whether the review was really committed to looking at all of the options or whether there is already tacit acceptance in government of the need for new nuclear build.

Ming Campbell is the new leader of the Liberal Democrats, and has already highlighted environmental issues strongly. At his first Prime Ministers Questions he challenged the PM over UK emissions, calling attention to apparent confusion in Whitehall over the Government's ability to meet emissions targets.
Greenpeace's Executive Director Stephen Tindale says of Ming's latest environment speech: "Ming Campbell has set the gold standard for green speeches". Speaking in response to the Lib Dem Leader's keynote speech on the environment in Norwich, he said Greenpeace endorsed Ming's challenge to the other parties, adding, "there's too much talk from New Labour and not yet enough substance from the Conservatives."
