Tax vs Regulation

Introduction I recently spoke in favour of carbon taxes at two GLD events: a session at the GLD conference in the Summer, and a fringe meeting during the main party conference. Both times, the meeting agenda was somewhat changed at the last minute, taking the focus away from the advantages of Carbon tax and onto other people's concerns.

Europe and the Environment

"Stay European" Conference examines the environment... Green Liberal Democrats have been asked by the campaigning group "Stay European"* to organise a fringe session for their conference on Saturday 21st November. Rather than keeping the session to themselves "Stay European" have kindly opened the session to others who may be interested. You can register for the conference here >> https://www.stayeuropean.org/conference/ and a Zoom link will be sent to you for the meeting.

AC/DC? - Time to switch the UK’s power distribution from AC over to DC

AC/DC? - A much needed shock to the system It is the future. It is inevitable. So why not now? There will never be a more propitious time to start switching the UK's power distribution from AC over to DC. According the Committee on Climate Change, we will need a quadrupling of our electrical supply capacity to support electrification of heat and transport. The huge investment in new power distribution infrastructure is a once in a hundred-year opportunity to replace our anachronistic AC power distribution with something much better and truly modern: a DC power distribution system. Moreover, the timing is perfect to lobby for the Government's Ox-Cam Arc national infrastructure project [1] to be built as the UK's (and possibly the World's) first major DC power zone.

Greenifying the Young Liberals

My Mission as Youth Officer, Part 1: Greenifying the Young Liberals At the first meeting of the new young liberal executive, I sat (by virtue of my new position as Social Mobility Representative) and watched the future leaders of our political movement deliberate what our organisation would look like over the year ahead. During the overarching strategy discussion I chipped in and noted that the Green Liberal Democrats are making an open offer to our friends in the Young Liberals to work together to ensure that the Young Liberals are setting the standard for the rest of the party yet again. This time on the matter of becoming an "Operationally Green" party body.
