Complaints - The number of complaints to Camden Council nearly tripled between 2021-22 and 2023-24.

  • The number of complaints to Camden Council nearly tripled between 2021-22 and 2023-24 (from 1,216 to 3,586).
  • Only 42% of complaints were handled on time in 2023-24.
  • The number of complaints in each of the first two quarters of 2024-25 is higher than in the whole of 2020-21.

Rough Sleeping – Camden has the 2nd highest rough sleeping rate in London (behind only Westminster).

  • Camden is the 2nd worst performing borough in London in terms of rough sleeping. In 2023/24 the total number of people seen rough sleeping in Westminster was 2,102 and in Camden it was 903.
  • The number of people seen rough sleeping in 2023/24 (903) was higher than in 2022/23 (719).
  • Plans to build new temporary accommodation are running four years late.
  • In July 2024 Camden Council rejected calls from homeless charities for an independent review of how it runs its homelessness services.

Recycling Rates – Camden’s recycling rates are in the bottom 25% of London Councils.

  • In 2022/23 Camden only recycled 28% of its waste.
  • It is in the bottom quarter of Councils in London.
  • It is in the bottom quarter of councils with a similar population and density.
  • Other inner London councils recycle over 30%, and the best London council (Ealing) recycles over 48%.

Anti-Social Behaviour – Fewer than half of council tenants were satisfied with Camden’s approach to handling anti-social behaviour.

Overall satisfaction with housing services is higher in Camden (67.7) than the London average (58.5%) but some areas scored much lower:

  • Satisfaction with approach to handling Anti-Social behaviour is 46.3% in Camden compared to a London average of 65.6%.
  • Stage 1 Complaints responded to within timescale is 48.5% in Camden compared to a London average of 71.8%.
  • Lift Safety checks completed are at 75.7% in Camden compared to a London average of 88.1%.

Housing Fire Safety - in the summer of 2023 the Council received a formal “Regulatory Notice” highlighting 400 outstanding “high-risk” fire safety actions.

  • In the summer of 2023 the Council received a formal “Regulatory Notice” about fire safety in council properties. There were over 400 outstanding “high-risk” actions.
  • It took until June 2024 to complete all the “high-risk” actions.
  • As at July 2024, there were still 8,609 medium & low-risk fire safety actions to be completed.
