Earl's Court campaign update - Silvertime application withdrawn!

Local Liberal Democrats in Earl's Court have welcomed the news that Silvertime have withdrawn their application for a massive 24/7 gambling shop on Earl's Court Road. This follows months of cross-party campaigning against the plans including your Liberal Democrat Councillors and campaigners.

The proposals faced overwhelming opposition, with over 800 residents signing our petition calling on the council to reject the application. Over 1,200 objections were received by the council.

The plans involved moving the existing Silvertime shop into the former Lloyds bank building, a larger and more prominent site directly opposite Earl's Court Station. The new shop would have undermined recent efforts to reinvigorate Earl's Court Road and build a safer and healthier high street for residents.

Your local Lib Dems will continue to oppose any new gambling shops in Earl's Court and campaign for improvements and investment into Earl's Court Road.

Lib Dem Cllr Linda Wade, Earl's Court ward said...

“I’m delighted to hear Silvertime have withdrawn their application. A new 24/7 gambling shop is the last thing our community needs. It would have significantly harmed the character of our area, reversed recent efforts to improve Earls Court Road and deterred inward investment”

Lib Dem Campaigner for Earl's Court, Christophe Noblet said...

“A 24/7 gambling superstore would have increased the risk to vulnerable residents and threatened plans to improve our high street. I’d like to thank everyone who signed our petition, wrote in to the council and supported our campaign.”
