Francis Chubb & Lara Fiorani

Your Lib Dem candidates for Northcote

Lara and Francis

Francis Chubb

Francis is a local dad who has a record of campaigning on local environmental issues.

Francis is a solicitor, a qualified mediator, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and cofounded a litigation practice in central London. In the past, he served as a British Army officer and as the chair of the trustees of a London museum. He currently volunteers at a local charity and serves as the chair of Wandsworth Liberal Democrats. If elected he would push for clear oversight of policy decisions, make an emphasis on using council powers to the benefit of the community, and communicate council actions to the residents of Northcote.

Lara Fiorani

Lara moved to Wandsworth after university and fell in love with Wandsworth Common and Northcote Road.

Lara has worked for two decades in financial services, leading teams and international projects. Now she consults and works for technology startups, as well as mentoring female founders of social impact enterprises. Lara believes local businesses are a crucial part of the fabric of the community and will use her extensive experience to support them. If elected, her guiding principle is that local councils should be ambitious in their goals whilst maintaining a responsible approach to budgeting and providing residents with the quality infrastructure and services they need to thrive. Lara volunteered extensively at Belleville School and at Broomwood Football Club, where she played a key role in the development of the Girls section. Having experienced Northcote as a young woman, a new mother, and with school-age children, she looks forward to continuing her work championing local women.

Our record of action

Improving safety in Northcote

The Lib Dems successfully fought to keep the Lavender Hill Police station counter open to the public, but we know that there is a lot more work to do. The decline of community policing has left people feeling less safe in our neighbourhood. That's why we are campaigning for more neighbourhood police on our streets and CCTV cameras in crime hotspots.

As parents, we both appreciate the importance of safe streets to school. We will work with schools and the local police team to ensure older children can travel to school independently and safely.

Making our Library work for our community

The Lib Dems are campaigning for Northcote Library to remain open for at least 6 days of the week. We will fight for it to be a proper community hub that delivers a wide range of services to residents including: volunteer-run digital support for the elderly, support for young people finding their first job and a place for local organisations and community groups to gather.

Protecting Wandsworth Common

The Lib Dems have successfully campaigned for clear limits on Wandsworth Council's proposal for uncapped large-scale events on Wandsworth Common. We will always stand up for our green spaces.

The stretch of Clapham Common owned by Wandsworth, but managed by Lambeth, has been neglected for years. We will work with Lib Dem councillors in neighbouring Labour-run Lambeth to give it a new lease of life.

Filling our empty tree pits

On many streets in Northcote trees have been removed, but not replaced. The Lib Dems would introduce a tree-for-tree guarantee, whereby any tree felled is replaced within the same planting season.
