Cardiff University Cuts – Labour Must Cancel Their Jobs Tax

Responding to the news that Cardiff University is set to shed 400 jobs, including cutting its nursing course, Welsh Liberal Democrat Westminster Spokesperson David Chadwick MP said:

“Labour’s increase to national insurance is already having a devastating impact across Wales, with both the private and tertiary sectors struggling to cope.

“Cardiff University cited a £7 million annual increase in national insurance payments as one of the key financial pressures it is facing, and this clearly will have impacted their devastating decision to cut 400 jobs.

“The Chancellor today spoke about growth, but it is clear that Labour’s plans are only stifling growth in Wales. Labour must cancel their tax on jobs immediately before it is too late.
