The Togo government has launched an energy policy to provide universal access to electricity by 2030.

The strategy which will transform lives in nearly 1,000 communities, relies heavily on solar energy.

Solar kit company Greenlight Planet has won a tender to distribute 300,000 units over the next three years.

Patrick Mariuki, African development director is enthusiastic, "It's an interesting market for us because Togo is moving forward quickly on its electrification strategy."

The African Development Bank has pledged its support and French Energy giants EDF and Engie are understood to be tendering.
