Kennedy says Environment will be at the heart of Lib Dem June 10th election campaign

4 May 2004

Tomorrow, at the 9.30 am launch in Cowley Street of his party's manifesto for the European elections on June 10th, Charles Kennedy, leader of the Liberal Democrats, will say:

'The Liberal Democrats are distinctive among the main parties in putting concern for the environment at the heart of our approach. We believe that people recognize the benefits of Europe working together to tackle pollution and give a lead to environmental protections throughout the world. Tackling air and water pollution requires tough action at the European level - action which has been strongly supported by the Liberal Democrats - and we are right to be very proud of our record in the European Parliament on environmental issues.'
