James Dart is speaking at GLD Conference 2019
I am a former school teacher who left teaching to focus on understanding Brexit, the sudden ubiquity of fake-news and the rise of the alt-right. Last year, I completed an MA in European Politics at the University of Exeter, whilst also co-founding 'Inspire EU' - a pro-European youth organisation with my brother Cllr. Jack Dart. In May of last year I stood as a City Councillor for the Lib Dems in Exeter, before moving to London to work for 'Scientists 4 EU' Social Media Intelligence Unit.
I am passionate about raising awareness of the cause and effects of climate change through the medium of social media. Last May I reached out to over 1m people around the world - designing & sharing content relating to progressive issues such as Brexit, climate change, social justice and everything in between.
Having taught both Science and Geography at Key Stages 1- 4, I have been incredibly impressed by the seriousness of young people when it comes to our evolving climate emergency. Where Boomers nonchalantly saw an unexpectedly hot day in December as a cause for celebration, these youngsters saw evidence of climate change.
I am, therefore, cautiously optimistic that the generations coming through have the necessary appetite, energy and mentality to drive the change that we need throughout this decade. I very much look forward to speaking at the Green Lib Dem conference!
