Green Hero - Adam Boyden
Environmental Consultant seeking election! News
Councillor Adam Boyden works in an environmental consultancy, assessing the implications of major development projects, so he is very well qualified to become a Green Champion in Parliament for Somerton and Frome. He is hoping to win back the seat formerly held by David Heath. Adam was a Cabinet Assistant for climate change on Mendip District Council from May until the election was called and he had to step away. Liberal Democrats are the largest party on Mendip District Council since the local elections in May 2019.
NOTE:- South Somerset District Council has been under Liberal Democrat control since 1987 and dramatically increased its majority at the last district election. At the same election the Lib Dems took control of Mendip District Council from the Tories.
Local Campaigner
Adam is proud of leading campaigns to improve the local environment and community life - one resulted in several Changing Places disabled facilities being built in the district. He has lobbied against fracking, for action on climate change, and to devolve local parks to the town council which led to vast improvements for local residents.
"As Parliamentary candidate - and as the MP for the constituency! - I will work positively and proactively to listen to
and stand up for local people, build alliances, and make a real difference on the issues that matter.
I will campaign for a good society, to stop Brexit, end austerity, save the planet,
and serve the people of Somerton & Frome to the best of my ability."
The Professional Environmentalist
As an Environmental Consultant Adam has worked on many major building and infrastructure projects assessing the environmental impact of major developments on communities, habitats and people. He has also been responsible for setting and maintaining standards in the industry.
He has been a Registered EIA Practitioner with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) since the start of the scheme in the early 2000s, having helped pilot the scheme for IEMA, and ensuring the companies he has worked to retain their IEMA EIA Quality Mark.
At Coopers Edge, near Gloucester, he created, maintained and monitored an ecologically diverse landscape for a 1900 dwelling development next to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest which addressed potential objections and enhanced the area. The network of green spaces created by the development for residents incorporated retained veteran trees, new and retained hedgerows and woodland, a restored river corridor, play areas, restored species-rich wildflower meadows and areas of habitats enhanced for Barn Owls.
Making Change Happen
Adam Boyden is a key member of the Green Liberal Democrats team which can, together, make environmental change happen in Parliament, so we'll be doing all we can to help get him elected. Will you join us? Adam is a member of the Green Lib Dems too.
