Government must not be allowed to corrupt environment statistics - Baker
Responding to reports in The Guardian today that the Government removed figures on transport emissions from an Office of National Statistics Report on the environment, Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, said:
"The first refuge of a scandal is to cover up the truth.
"The Department for Transport should be striving hard to drive down emissions rather than covering up the fact that they are increasing.
"We must have absolute faith in the Office of National Statistics and the Government must not be allowed to corrupt their operation in this way."
