Energy Savings Trust Annual Review 06-07 Launched

The annual review gives an insight into what's been happening at the Energy Saving Trust over the past year. Awareness of the importance of climate change is high. However, with conflicting information from so many sources, people are understandably confused about where to go for information and advice. The Energy Saving Trust is attempting to address this confusion by offering consumers a single, independent and trusted source for all their energy saving advice and information. We are now clearly seen as the leading independent adviser offering energy saving advice to consumers - dealing with millions of people annually. No-one else has an ability to independently verify energy saving attributes of products and this year we've already supported numerous companies with our verification work.

The new advice centres managed by the Energy Saving Trust have been set up in response to increasing public demand for a one-stop shop that provides advice on all energy saving matters: renewables, sustainable transport and energy efficiency. Over the last 18 months, we've been piloting the new advice centres in Anglia, the North East and Northern Ireland. The results have been excellent; we've increased our customer reach, achieved greater reductions in carbon emissions and done it cost effectively.

Our work with corporate and community partners, along with the development of the advice centres, aspire to reach 10 million consumers annually by 2010, meaning we are leading the way in partnership work.

Our aspiration to 2010 is threefold: firstly, to ensure that every means possible is put in place to develop low-carbon citizens; secondly to ensure that the next generation of low-carbon technology is brought into the market place, whether that's in lighting, heating or consumer electronics; and, thirdly, to push forward - by working with the relevant organisations - consumer advice that covers all of the key sustainability issues, like water conservation and household waste reduction. Our aim is to reach most of the UK's 25 million households so that being sustainable becomes not just a marginal area of interest in people's lives, but a normal every day way of living.
