Chancellor Forgets The Environment Again - Baker

16 Mar 2005

Commenting on the environmental implications of the Chancellor's budget, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Norman Baker MP said:

"Coming only one day after Gordon Brown's speech in which he stressed the importance of tackling climate change this budget has demonstrated that Labour just doesn't get the environment.

"He has flunked the key decision that needed to be made on tackling the massive rises in emissions from aircraft.

"We urgently need a new approach to taxation, with an environmental incentive programme at its heart which would make the polluter pay. "
