BirdGirl to become youngest Honorary Doc ever.

Birdgirl

Mya-RoseCraig, otherwise known as Birdgirl, one of our speakers from last year`s Green Lib Dem Conference in Nottingham is to receive an Honorary Doctorate in Science from Bristol University in February. Still only 17, this will make her the youngest Honorary Doc in the UK. WELL DONE Mya-Rose!

Mya-Rose is a 17 yr old race and environmental activist, naturalist, ornithologist, birder (birdwatcher), bird ringer, conservationist, environmentalist, blogger, writer, speaker and broadcaster. On her LinkedIn profile she tells us…

"I am committed to getting Visible Minority Ethnic (VME) people connected with nature. I have been campaigning for 5 years to make the environmental sector including wildlife film-making ethnically diverse and so engaging with VME commuities by making themselves relevant. I have done this through my projects such as nature camps for young people; Race Equality in Nature Conferences; and as Founder and President of Black2Nature. I am also involved in Youth Strikes for Climate, Youth for our Planet and Extinction Rebellion, having set up a local group.

I am doing all I can to try to save our planet and everything on it. We have catastrophic disasters hanging over us which we must fight to stop. I believe that we need to push governments around the world but particularly those in the Global North to take immediate & sufficient action to stop Climate Breakdown at the same time as saving the 1 million species predicted to become extinct by the UN IPBES Report 2019. I am trying to persuade people to do the same though my writing, talks & use of media. It was great to be a Bristol European Green Capital 2015 Ambassador with Tony Juniper and Simon King.

My biggest passion is world birding which I am very privileged to have had the chance to do extensively. It's fantastic to see wildlife & conservation projects well as meeting indigenous peoples in different countries, visiting 7 continents and seeing half the world's birds. Antarctica was the most special and made me appreciate how precious our planet is."

ALL YOUR FRIENDS IN THE GREEN LIB DEMS ARE DELIGHTED TO WISH YOU WELL WITH YOUR LATEST HONOUR. WELL DONE BIRDGIRL!
