Reports from Ordinary Executive Members for the 2018 Annual General Meeting.

Steve Bolter

My main role has been assisting the VC(P) on policy matters.

This year I have written an article for "Challenge" with acompanying notes on the website. I have also regularly posted things on our Facebook pages.

I have spoken for us at a meeting in Parliament on smart metering, and put our line on various consultations. I have been part of the Lib Dem presence, at most London demonstrations, emphasising the role the EU plays in envionmental matters.

An important function I undertake is to loook at what is being posted on our own Facebook pages and other Lib Dems pages to clarify our environmental policies when people suggest we do what we have already done or when they show a misunderstanding of our policies. I help demonstrate that we have achieved much more on green issues than the Green Party have, and encourage Green Party members to work with us.

I have worked to get the GLD to take a closer use on farming and Land use. (Phil Bennion now on board)

I have spoken in Federal and Regional Conferences on environmental matters. I have written an amendment to F23 for the Sept 2018 conference.

My objective upon rejoining the GLD executive Committee in 2017 was simple enough: To make a difference. I hope and believe I have achieved that goal, but the final judgement on that will have to be you, the reader.
I was the last Chair of the Liberal Ecology Group before the merger of the two parties when I became the first Chair of GLD in 1988, so I was conscious that 2018 would be the thirtieth anniversary of the founding of the group. I therefore suggested and took responsibility for the organisation of an anniversary Conference to celebrate the group`s birthday.
The conference was duly held in excellent surroundings of Nottingham University in May 2018 with around 100 delegates and speakers, including three out of our twelve MPs including Party leader Sir Vince Cable, with the opening speech by Sir Simon Hughes, who had been the keynote speaker in 1988. We had the pleasure of the company of the current Climate Change spokesperson in the House of Lords, Baroness Lynne Featherstone and the presence of former MEP Phil Bennion, as well as a host of excellent outside speakers and speakers from the group itself.
I was appointed to the Climate Change Working Party for the Liberal Democrats and was instrumental in drawing up reports for that group.
I have visited a number of Regional Conferences on behalf of the Green Lib Dems, spoken at the Young Liberal AGM and signed up a good number of new members in the process of taking these meetings. Since then I have been concentrating on setting up Green Campaigning training sessions at the Brighton autumn conference. At the time of writing this report the two sessions are over half subscribed and we hope to be able to run both of them. By and large I count that as a successful year on the Exec Committee.

I continued making links with my many friends in the ex-Young-Liberals, the Green Party, Stonehenge Campaign and beyond.

I proof read GLD Challenge magazine, and helped our editor to find articles.

I worked on the GLD website and facebook page and members group, integrating them with Challenge magazine.

I started transcribing and editing video and sound recordings from our Nottingham Conference for the web.

I showed several exec members how to post to our website (we voted last year that all exec members be given the power to post to the website, Facebook page, and GLD Twitter).
