Fair taxes at the heart of Liberal Democrat message

Liberal Democrat Leader Nick Clegg today pledged to put fair taxes at the heart of the party's message to the British people. The party's new tax plans will see tax cuts for millions of people, paid for by closing tax loopholes, making polluters pay and introducing a 'mansion tax' on homes worth over £2m.

Dungeness: The REAL Nuclear Option

It's easy - and understandable - for the recent decision on Dungeness to be seen as a hammer blow to the Marsh economy. The decision to provisionally exclude Dungeness from the list of 10 sites being considered for new Nuclear build seems to put at threat the potential of 600 local jobs - maybe more. Of course we want those jobs locally, and Dungeness has a long and proud association with the safe generation of nuclear power.

Lib Dems call for Shepway to webcast meetings

The Liberal Democrats are calling on Shepway Council to follow the example of other councils and make meetings available to watch on-line. Web-casting of meetings is increasingly common and low cost, and the Lib Dem motion seeks a partner company to make the meetings available at no or very low cost to local taxpayers.

Southeastern's massive ticket and parking price hike slammed

Off-peak fares on Southeastern services from Kent will soar by 7.3% in 2010. The massive hike in unregulated fares is almost 9% above the inflation rate, and almost 5 times the increase to be applied to regulated fares such as Season tickets and anytime single and return fares.
