The Southwark Liberal Democrats submitted requests on Friday for Newham Council to reject a licensing application from party boat Oceandiva.

Group objections to the party boat centred on concerns regarding noise, which has already plagued riverside wards for years.

While, North Bermondsey councillors also submitted comments on issues including the potential for huge disruption from partygoers disembarking at Butler’s Wharf Pier.

These submissions demanded that Newham Council reject the application or, if it decided to approve it, impose specific conditions to reduce disturbance to residents.

Oceandiva is applying for a license from Newham Council as this is where the boat will be moored for the majority of the time.

The super yacht is the length of a football pitch, can host up to 1,500 guests, and promises to be the “largest floating events space on the Thames.”

Commenting, Cllr Rachel Bentley, Southwark Liberal Democrat member for North Bermondsey said:

“Our group represents three wards that sit on the banks of the Thames and noise is a persistent concern for our residents. There can be no reasonable argument that this enormous party boat will not cause consistent anti-social disturbances. We urge Newham’s licensing committee to reject this application.”
