Adam and Irene's Story

To mark the end of Carers Week (9th –13th June), the Liberal Democrats have released a video with Adam, a Liberal Democrat Councillor for Surrey Docks, who cares for his mother in law Irene, who is 69 and has Parkinsons.
In a moving video echoing Ed Davey’s powerful personal video released during the general election, Adam explains some of the challenges he faces as a carer, and what changes he would like to see happen.
In March, Adam moved a motion in support of young carers, and supported an amendment to the budget that would have seen more investment into integrated care teams that would help bring the health and social care systems together in Southwark.
The video captures touching moments between Adam and Irene, as he helps her around the house and takes her for a walk to feed the ducks.
Commenting, Cllr Adam Hood said:
“Carers week is all about raising awareness about how much care goes under the radar. I’m proud to share my story and hope that it means others can seek the support they need, and push for change in the way unpaid and paid care is dealt with locally and nationally.
Our story is just one of thousands of stories of families looking after each other here in Southwark, and I’m really proud that the Liberal Democrats, the party of carers, is there for them.”
