Second Tactical Voting Site Backs David Chadwick for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe
A second tactical voting site, run by the organisation Best for Britain, has backed voting for the Liberal Democrat candidate for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe David Chadwick as the best way of preventing a Conservative win in the constituency.
Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe is the Liberal Democrats' top target seat in Wales and was recently the site of a visit by party Leader Ed Davey to launch their Welsh campaign.
However, despite welcoming the news this morning, the Liberal Democrats have warned of complacency and of underestimating the Conservative vote, pointing to a recent YouGov poll that had the Conservatives just 3 per cent ahead of Liberal Democrat candidate David Chadwick.
The predecessor seat of Brecon and Radnorshire was a Conservative and Liberal Democrat marginal for the last 40 years, with the seat always being won by one of the two parties at both a Westminster and Senedd level.
Under the new boundaries, the Liberal Democrats would have come second to the Conservatives at the last election with 28 per cent of the vote, while Labour would have come a distant third.
The Liberal Democrats also made major headways in the 2022 Powys council election, beating the Conservatives and leaving them with just a single councillor in all of Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe.
Commenting on the endorsement by Best for Britain, Liberal Democrat Candidate for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe David Chadwick said:
“It is great to see a second tactical voting site in a row back my campaign to deliver positive change for our communities.
“But we cannot be complacent, recent polls have the Liberal Democrats just 3 per cent behind the Conservatives here.
“I am asking Labour and Plaid Cymru voters to put their trust in me to deliver a better future for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe. The Conservatives don’t deserve to win after years of neglect and scandal and they don’t have the ideas needed to improve our society.
“I will continue to work hard over the coming weeks to prove to voters they can trust me to restore integrity and honesty in politics and to stand up for public services across our communities right across the constituency from the post-industrial Swansea Valley to the rural hills of Radnorshire.
