Liberal Democrats Storm to a Double By-Election Victory in Crickhowell

Lib Dems celebrate election win in Crickhowell

According to the Liberal Democrats, the results show that they are on course to win back the Brecon, Radnor & Cwm-Tawe constituency at the next General Election. The Party have also stated that the win bodes well for their chances in another Powys Council by-election coming up this month in Talybont-on-Usk in the South of the Constituency.

The results of the election were 32% and 30% for the two Lib Dem candidates respectively while the Conservatives finished on 13% and 12%, failing even to get even half of the votes of the Liberal Democrats and moving backwards from their result in 2022 in what is likely to be interpreted as an ominous sign of the Conservatives hold on Powys at a Parliamentary level.

The two newly elected Liberal Democrats councillors for Crickhowell are Claire Hall and Chloe Masefield. Claire currently serves as a town councillor and planning expert while Chloe runs a local high-street shop.

Commenting Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate David Chadwick said:

“This spectacular double by-election win shows that despite the Conservatives throwing the kitchen sink into trying to win these seats, the public is fed up with their chaos and mismanagement and is ready to boot them out at the next General Election, with the Liberal Democrats on track to win back the Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe seat from them.

“Our councillors are hard at work trying to repair the damage caused by the previous Conservative & independent administration and it is great to see that recognised in these results. Claire and Chloe are fantastic local champions and I know they are going to go on to serve their community fantastically.”

New Liberal Democrat Councillors Chloe and Claire added:

“We want to thank everyone who placed their trust in us during this election. We are looking forward to getting to work and serving our local community.”
