Somerton and Frome shows Lib Dems can overthrow Tories

Responding to yet another historic by-election victory for the Liberal Democrats in Somerton and Frome, which has seen Sarah Dyke elected as an MP, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:      

“Today’s news is absolutely fantastic, and I know that our new Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Dyke will do an incredible job of representing the communities she serves.    

“I was thrilled to meet Sarah earlier this week and join our activists out campaigning. Sarah overturned a massive 19,000 Conservative majority to win the seat; her victory is truly remarkable.    

“Once again, this proves that Liberal Democrats have returned as a force in British politics. We are showing that we can challenge this out-of-touch Conservative government and offer a powerful alternative to a stagnated status quo. Across rural and metropolitan parts of the country, we are showing that we are the ones who can overthrow the Conservatives and we will be bringing that same energy to Scotland as we look towards a general election."
