McArthur: UK Government must press ahead with carbon capture scheme
Responding to reports indicating that Scotland’s first carbon capture and storage facility at the St Fergus gas terminal in Aberdeenshire may be given the go-ahead after the Conservative Government failed to support it in 2021, Scottish Liberal Democrat climate emergency spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
“Firing up carbon capture and storage in the North East would provide thousands of jobs and accelerate Scotland's progress towards achieving our emissions reduction targets.
“Scotland has the opportunity to be at the forefront of a new global industry. We have experienced engineers, problems that need solving and a ticking clock.
“The Conservative Government needs to end years of hee-hawing and press ahead with this scheme to make carbon capture a reality in Scotland.“
