McArthur responds to landline phones in prison cells
Responding to the announcement by the Scottish Prison Service that landline phones will be installed in prison cells, Scottish Liberal Democrat justice spokesperson Liam McArthur MSP said:
“Subject to appropriate safeguards and restrictions, installing landlines in prisons represents a sensible move.
“Enabling those in prison to maintain contact with family can help improve the chances of them successfully reintegrating into society and reduce the risks of reoffending.
“The conditions inside Scotland’s prisons are among some of the worst in Europe. This government must deliver reform which strikes a fair balance between punishing, supporting and rehabilitating.”
