Energy price cap: Government inaction means families and pensioners will struggle to heat their homes again
Responding to the changes in the energy price cap, Liberal Democrat Scottish affairs spokesperson Christine Jardine MP said:
“It’s a relief that global energy prices are starting to come down, but inaction from both the SNP and Conservative governments means that far too many families and pensioners will struggle to heat their homes again this winter.
“Across Scotland, bills will still be almost double what they were two years ago, and many families will actually be paying more than they did last winter. That is a shocking failure on the part of SNP and Conservative ministers.
“Both of Scotland’s governments must play their part. As well as doubling the Winter Fuel Allowance and Warm Home Discount this winter, Rishi Sunak must introduce a proper windfall tax on the record profits of oil and gas giants. The Scottish Government must match this by listening to my party’s calls for a national emergency insulation programme to heat every home and bring down bills.”
