Cole-Hamilton responds to Forres Academy closing due to RAAC
Responding to the news that Forres Academy in Moray has been closed to pupils for two days while structural engineers assess a “higher level of risk” from dangerous concrete, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:
“Despite my party raising repeated concerns about this problem ever since May, SNP ministers have dragged their feet. Now, they have potentially exposed tens of thousands of pupils to a serious level of risk.
“Today’s news completely flies in the face of comments from the Education Secretary that a concrete beam collapsing in a Dunblane school was an ‘isolated incident.’
“As well as explaining why it never acted sooner despite clear warnings, I want the Scottish Government to commit to a national fund which will help local authorities remove this potentially fatal concrete from schools as a matter of the utmost urgency."
