Save Consett's Empire Theatre

Reform Party councillors running Durham County Council are threatening to CLOSE the cafe at Consett's Empire Theatre and review whether the cinema screenings will continue.

Local Liberal Democrats are asking residents and theatre users to support a petition opposing the cuts, which are likely to leave the Consett Empire with declining customers and slated for closure in the near future.

Liberal Democrat councillor Kathryn Rooney said, "people in Consett have time and again seen services run down and then eventually closed when numbers dwindle further. Closing the cafe and cutting the cinema screenings would likely be the beginning of the end for the Consett Empire."
