Labour Mayor cuts crucial Lewisham bus service

From May 2026, the 54 bus route through Lewisham has been cut by 17% from six buses an hour to five along the entire route.

The route between Woolwich and Elmer's End serves Blackheath, Catford and Bellingham as well as Lewisham Town Centre - we are now seeing increased crowding and longer waits thanks to Sadiq Khan's decision to reduce capacity by more than 1200 per day in each direction.

Lib Dem spokesman, Josh Matthews called it “a nonsensical decision that will make commuting harder and do nothing to discourage car traffic.”

“Our communities are already struggling with congestion and air pollution and it is crucial that we tackle them. The Mayor should be doing all he can to make it easier to use public transport and leave the car at home. This is the exact opposite of that.”

Labour politicians have learned nothing from their defeat in the local elections and are doing nothing to help Build Lewisham's Future.
