'Welcome news that Police and Crime Commissioner roles are to be scrapped' - say Medway Liberal Democrats
Graham Colley, Liberal Democrats Kent Police and Crime Commissioner 2024 election candidate rejoices, “The system of police and crime commissioners is a failed experiment. Liberal Democrats welcome the news that the Labour Government has finally come to its senses and proposes the abolition of Police and Crime Commissioner roles. The budget from the PCC role can now be put to better use to support local community policing, expand the number of police officers and tackle the rise in rural crime, such as theft and the fly-tipping epidemic that is ruining Kent's beautiful countryside.”
Graham Colley and the Liberal Democrats in Kent and Medway campaigned on a manifesto to abolish Police and Crime Commissioners in the PCC 2024 election. We believe oversight of the policing system can be done better and in a more cost-effective manner.
All resources should be focused on improving our policing service. We must strengthen local community safety, fixing the years of ineffective resourcing and mismanagement that left communities feeling abandoned in the face of increasing crime and anti-social behaviour under the last Conservative Government. Improving crime prevention will reduce court backlogs and reduce reoffending. This will reduce the pressure on our prison system, where we have seen inmates wrongfully released under the watch of Labour ministers.
