'Rainham’s Road Depression Returns AGAIN!' - say local Lib Dems

10 May 2024
AGAIN!

Medway Liberal Democrats are disappointed that a large depression in a road in Rainham, that we successfully campaigned to get fixed, has returned. This is despite Medway Council spending £1,377.08 to get the depression fixed only last year.

Our local activists first learned from residents about the depression in November 2022, who were worried that this large depression could cause damage to cars. Residents were also concerned about what had caused this hollow, as it was directly above one of the main sewers in Rainham and there had also been reports of sink holes along the Lower Rainham Road. We immediately launched a successful campaign and petition to get this dangerous depression filled in, and it was repaired in January 2023.

Sadly, however, the depression has returned, and it appears to be bigger than ever.

Stuart Bourne, Lib Dem candidate for Gillingham & Rainham, says, ‘It is so disheartening to see that this dangerous rut in the road that I campaigned to get fixed is back. The Conservative Council wasted nearly £1,400 of taxpayer’s money on a fix that appears not to have worked. Where was the quality control of the work? No wonder I’ve seen potholes repeatedly repaired multiple times.’

Medway Liberal Democrats are calling on Medway Council to immediately investigate the cause of this continued depression and ensure residents that there is no danger of the sewer or road collapsing. We also call on them to ensure any future works are checked for quality by Council officers to make sure we don’t waste any further council funds.
