Enough is enough, as 460 plus residents sign Medway Lib Dems Frindsbury Hill petition

Handed into Medway Council, our petition takes up concerns expressed to us by local residents who are likely to be affected by the upcoming closure of Frindsbury Hill 11th March to 21st June. 

Medway Liberal Democrats have acquired 460 petition signatures in just 2 weeks showing the scale of residents' opposition to the closure. 

Traffic restrictions during the '3 month' closure will delay access for emergency vehicles to the area, and for the wider vicinity. Elderly and vulnerable residents will have problems accessing public transport as several bus stops are going to be off-limits. This will cause stress to the elderly, people living with disabilities relying on carers and especially to the people living, working and going to school in the area. Buses serving the Peninsula will be diverted for the 15 weeks, will mean disruption for many passengers and local businesses are also under threat of closure or loss of trade. 

Congestion on the diversion, will affect residents, who will be impacted by increased traffic levels at peak times. This will increase air pollution, journey times, fuel consumption, and likely cause major traffic jams for the local workforce travelling by car and bus.  We - and local residents  - ask "Has there been an appropriate assessment carried out before the closure takes place?"

Alan Wells, spokesperson for Medway Liberal Democrats said," I have received a lot feedback from residents and from my Frindsbury work colleagues on the proposed closure. Residents, whom I have spoken to, say that not enough consideration has been given about the levels of disruption the closure is going to cause. I work in the area, so I know how frustrated people are. 
 
We understand that work needs to be undertaken but the length of time is excessive without any relief or mitigation and so we call on Council - and its links to the Dept for Education to reconsider its plans and support local residents and workers who have to live in the chaos and disruption. It's time to put residents first.
