'A stitch-up' - say Medway Liberal Democrats responding to job losses at Chatham Docks
John Castle, spokesperson for Rochester and Strood, issued the following statement: "Labour must answer for their stitch‑up with developers that threatens to cut jobs in Medway. There is no viable plan for Chatham Docks.
Instead of supporting a thriving, working community, Medway Labour is intent on tearing it down without any credible promise of replacement jobs and without any guarantee of affordable housing. This is reckless and short‑sighted.
The Liberal Democrats have consistently called for real opportunities at the docks: ending punitive steel tariffs and securing a fair trading relationship through a new UK‑EU customs union. That is how we inject growth, protect livelihoods, and build a future that works for Medway residents. Labour’s empty promises simply will not do."
