Ealing Labour refuse to review the Lammas Park mess

Ealing Liberal Democrats demanded an independent review into the Lammas Park fiasco where the council was trying to build a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS). Local residents have been left with a largely unusable park for a period of at least two years while the first company to do the work has gone out of business.

There was an impassioned debate at Council on Tues 15 July 2025 called by the Liberal Democrat opposition. The aim was to highlight the ongoing devastation, delay and mess which has been left in the park and demand a review of the whole project.

Residents have been critical of poor initial design, lack of progress updates, poor transparency and weak management of contractors and delivery. The bacteria E Coli has been found in the park, along with raw sewage. Concerns raised during the consultation have not been taken into account which was indicative of other consultation processes not respecting residents’ views.

Ealing Liberal Democrats have pressed for a full review to be undertaken and its findings made public.

Councillor Connie Hersch - Crime, Anti-Social Behaviour, Communities and Culture spokesperson and Ealing Common ward councillor said “Ealing Liberal Democrats believe that local residents deserve some openness and transparency on why this project has taken over two years and why concerns raised in the consultation have not been taken into account."

Councillor Jon Ball – Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Ealing Common ward councillor said, “The way Ealing Labour have delivered this scheme has left many residents frustrated, excluded, and frankly, bewildered. Two years of disruption in one of Ealing’s most treasured green spaces, without clear explanation or adequate communication, is not acceptable. We are disappointed that they are not open to a review and to improving the way they deliver future projects.
