Camden Liberal Democrat Group Leader Cllr Tom Simon has written to the Prime Minister calling for humanity to be at the heart of the debate on immigration. His open letter, which highlights the impact of recent immigration enforcement activity in Camden, was featured in the Camden New Journal.

In the letter, Cllr Simon urges the government to take a more compassionate and transparent approach to immigration policy, saying:

“Those who have made their homes here, who work, study and raise families in our community, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect — not to live in fear of unmarked vans and dawn raids. We need an immigration system that is firm but fair, and above all, humane.”

Cllr Simon’s message reflects the concerns of many Camden residents about the tone of the national conversation on immigration. He warns that stoking fear and hostility divides communities and undermines the inclusive values that make Camden such a strong and vibrant place to live.

Camden Liberal Democrats are proud to support Cllr Simon’s call for an immigration policy based on compassion, fairness and respect, and that recognises the contributions migrants make to our borough and our country.
