SustFest: How Liberals Can Take the Fight to the Populists on Climate Change

  • 16 Nov 2025
  • 2.45 pm - 4.15 pm
  • Catherine Street
    St Albans
    AL3 5BU

How Liberals Can Take the Fight to the Populists on Climate Change

Join us for a timely and thought-provoking panel discussion, “How Liberals Can Take the Fight to the Populists on Climate Change,” featuring Elliot Chapman-Jones, Director of Liberals and Democrats for Nature and Climate, and local Lib Dem councillors and sustainable business champions.

As climate misinformation and populist narratives continue to distort public debate, this event will explore how liberals can lead with honesty, optimism, and evidence to reframe the climate conversation.

Drawing on fresh polling data, Elliot Chapman-Jones will reveal key insights into what the British public really thinks about climate change — and how this often contrasts sharply with the divisive messages spread by populist movements.

Sean Hughes, Owner of Dylan’s in St Albans, and councillors Jacqui Taylor and Keith Cotton will then reflect on how liberal values of fairness, community, and internationalism can form the foundation of community climate action in St Albans, challenge cynicism and inspire real action.

This event is a must for campaigners, policymakers, and anyone who wants to see liberals reclaim the narrative and build public trust in climate leadership.

Event line-up:
•  Chair: Sean Hughes, Owner of Dylans at The Kings Arms and The Boot, champion of sustainable business
•  Elliot Chapman-Jones, Director of Liberals and Democrats for Nature and Climate
•  Cllr Jacqui Taylor, Lead councillor for Sustainability, Climate and Housing Delivery

  • 20 Nov 2025
  • 7.00 pm - 10.00 pm
  • 79 Corringway
    London
    W5 3HB

Lets talk politics, and have some nibbles too.

Under the leadership of former Liberal Democrat Zack Polanski, the Green party has achieved a sudden surge in the polls and attracted tens of thousands of members.

Many Green activists believe that this indicates they will soon eclipse the Liberal Democrats in prominence, becoming the main left of centre challenger to Labour, thanks to their leader's effective communication strategy.

However, it remains to be seen if the Greens can turn this influx of members into tangible political power. Labour under the leadership of Jeremy Corbyn showed that having lots of members does not guarantee amassing political power.
