Stop cruise ships mooring inside the ULEZ

Cruise ships are back

We call upon the London Mayor to ban cruise ships mooring without onshore power, inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ).  For several years LibDems at GLA and local level have argued for the removal of these polluting vessels from moorings immediately adjacent to our town centre and residential properties.

Reports confirm that these ships are a major source of environmental pollution and degradation while bringing little by way of economic activity to our community. Air quality in London is now at crisis levels and tackling pollution created by ships should be treated with equal importance to tackling the high levels of pollution from road vehicles.

In 2022 we have already seen many ships moored up at Greenwich and Tower Bridge and many more are scheduled to do so into the future.

We urge the London Mayor to ban cruise ships mooring without onshore power, inside the extended Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) now.
