Eltham Town & Avery Hill

Our candidates for Eltham Town & Avery Hill

Eileen Cox

I have lived in Greenwich for over 30 years, first in Plumstead Common and now in Eltham, so I am very familiar with the area. Prior to coming to work in London at The Natural History Museum as a research scientist, I held research appointments in several UK universities (Bristol, Oxford and Sheffield) and in research institutions in Germany (Biologische Anstalt Helgoland and Max-Planck-Institut für Limnologie).

I believe  local councils have a responsibility to provide the essential services that enable individuals to live in safe and supportive environments, allowing them to work, study and enjoy life to the full.

Mark Pattenden

I was born and raised in the borough and have lived in Eltham with my partner for 18 years. I have previously served as councillor for the Avery Hill and Eltham town area for 8 years.

I am committed to making our area better – making our green spaces safer and more accessible, promoting our high streets and small businesses, and keeping our local environment clean and free from flytipping.

Our Labour council has neglected our area. You can see that from the state of our roads, many of which are now filled with dangerous potholes.

Labour has taken local residents for granted for too long, they aren’t listening. If elected I will be a strong voice, representing local residents and holding the council to account.

I moved to New Eltham in 1967 and joined the Liberal Party in 1974, in what was then the Woolwich West constituency. I have been a party member ever since and, despite the ebb and flow of party popularity, I have remained committed to the principles of Freedom, Fairness, and Trust for which the Liberal Democrats have always stood.

I have also been a staunch supporter of grass roots politics; to giving a voice to those whose voices are often unheard; to doing your best for the community in which you live, and, if it needs it, to fixing the church roof.

Between 2002 and 2010, I was Chair of NHS Greenwich, where I was instrumental in securing funding for the community hospital that was subsequently built in Eltham.
