Meet Danny Chambers

Danny Chambers MP is your local health champion and a hardworking MP who listens and gets things done for local people. He has been leading the campaign to save Winchester’s A&E and consultant-led maternity services. Improving our area’s health services is his top priority.

In his first year as Winchester’s MP, Danny has led the campaigns to save vital local services including Chesil Lodge Day Centre and the recycling centres in Bishop’s Waltham and Alresford. He has already supported more than 11,000 people with problems ranging from housing to support for children with SEND.

Growing up on his family’s farm, Danny’s love of animals and science naturally led him into a career as a vet. He worked across Hampshire – primarily treating horses. He has also worked on global health projects around the world, including in The Gambia, India and Morocco.

He has used his experience as a vet to pass the Puppy Smuggling Bill, a huge piece of animal welfare legislation which cracks down on illegal imports of mutilated animals. His bill passed the House of Commons on the first anniversary of being elected as an MP.

In Parliament, he has been one of the leading voices for tackling Antimicrobial Resistance. After visiting Ukrainian hospitals, he was able to persuade the Prime Minister to include additional support for tackling these superbugs into the UK’s aid to Ukraine.

He was until recently on the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the governing body of vets within the UK, and was the trustee of a mental health charity. He uses this experience as the Lib Dem spokesperson for mental health, where he is leading calls nationally for faster access to mental health care and a mental health practitioner in every school.

Danny enjoys cycling, running and hiking. One of his favourite routes is the Itchen Navigation – where he can often be found walking his dog, Moose.
