New poll boosts Lib Dem hopes in Shepway
The latest Populus Opinion Poll in The Times shows that the Lib Dems are gaining ground on Michael Howard's Conservative party. The poll showed the Lib Dems up 7% to 24%, while the Tories fell 4% to 31%. Labour also fell 4%.

More Police Now!
I have some strong views about Policing. Many, many people from across Shepway contact me and tell me about how their lives are ruined by vandalism, threatening behaviour, graffiti and general anti-social behaviour. The letters don't just come from our large towns. They come from every part of Shepway. Very often, each individual incident sounds almost trivial - but add them up and this issue is extremely serious for a lot of people. There are a number of initiatives in Shepway which are supported by the Council and the Police amongst which are trying to address this problem. I support them fully. However, in my view, they are unlikely to work without a substantial increase in the number of visible Police Officers on Patrol during the times of the day that these problems are most acute.

Lib Dems call for full public inquiry into Iraq War
Kent Liberal Democrats are demanding that the likely inquiry into the question of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq be as wide as possible. It is rumoured that the inquiry may be limited to investigating the quality of the intelligence itself. The Lib Dems are saying that any inquiry must cover the issue of how that intelligence was handled, interpreted and presented.

Reacting to the publication of the Hutton report today, Shepway Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman Peter Carroll said "The aftermath of the Hutton report has been more dramatic that many people expected. The most senior managers of our greatest broadcasting institution the BBC have resigned on the basis that they were ultimately accountable for 'errors made'.
