In the local elections of 2023, we successfully removed the Conservatives from power on Canterbury City Council, proving that when we come together, positive change is possible.

Just after a year into our coalition on Canterbury City Council we continue to make huge progress on our manifesto pledges, working in partnership with Labour. The market in Canterbury has returned and we look to grow and establish other markets across the district. We have also purchased 67 new council homes and are working on a long-term council housing strategy that will enable us to provide significantly more council homes in the future.

Nationally, the Liberal Democrats are back as a major force in British politics.  Following the recent general election we now have 72 MPs in parliament and are once again the third party in Westminster.  Many of our local members gave their energy and time to support campaigns in the target seats of Eastbourne and Tunbridge Wells, both of which successfully elected Liberal Democrat MPs, with Mike Martin becoming our first Liberal Democrat MP In Kent.

Now, more than ever, we must channel that energy and determination towards the KCC elections which are due in May 2025. We are hopeful that we will increase the number of Liberal Democrat KCC councillors, both here in Canterbury, and also in other parts of the county, and whether from a position of opposition or administration we will continue to do the best for residents.

But what can you do to help?

Whether it's canvassing, phone banking, or assisting with event coordination, your time and skills are invaluable to our cause. If you are unable to offer your time then your donations will support and campaign and make our voices heard.

Let's replicate our national success in Canterbury. Together, we can build momentum that will bring about the change we seek. Sign up to volunteer and donate today to help us build on our recent successes and increase the number of Liberal Democrat KCC councillors.
