Campaigns Organiser (Hertfordshire)
Job Title: Liberal Democrat Campaigns Organiser
Salary range: £25,000-£27,000
Location: Home-based, with expectation of travelling to areas in Three Rivers and Watford
regularly. Access could also be given to office space in Hertfordshire if needed
Days: Full-time. It is expected that the Campaigns Organiser will work to assist evening and
weekend campaign activities by agreement.

The Hertfordshire Liberal Democrats are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person
who can play a key role in building volunteer infrastructure, creating leaflets and organising
doorstep activity – to support our fast-paced campaign. The role will be pivotal to our
success in local Council Elections in 2026-2028 (District, Borough and future Unitary), and
the next General Election in 2028/29.
The role will also look to build on Sally Symington’s strong result in the 2024 UK General
Election, in an effort to win the seat next time, and develop Watford’s campaign substantially
to win that seat also.
As Campaigns Organiser, you will be communicating with volunteers about upcoming
campaign activities, recruiting and triaging new volunteers, designing and arranging
distribution for campaign leaflets, planning and organising constituency door-knocking
efforts, and working together with respective campaign teams to steer our campaigning
efforts.
Each of these tasks will require strong communication skills, a welcoming attitude, and the
confidence to work with and engage volunteers.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated by hitting targets, and proactive in keeping
the pace of the campaign, getting stuck in on a range of different tasks and getting things
done.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
1. To assist the Campaign Teams in Three Rivers and Watford in strategic planning and
campaign organisation
2. To organise volunteers and local party workers to deliver the campaign plan, by:
- Recruiting, training, managing and mobilising volunteers
- Leading volunteer teams on campaigning activities (doorstep, online,
telephone and delivery)
3. To ensure the delivery of a programme of doorstep and telephone voter contact
4. To oversee and contribute to the production of literature as per the local party
literature plan, both local and constituency wide
5. To build and develop digital campaigning capacity alongside key volunteers
6. To organise volunteers to enter data in the online database, taking into consideration
confidentiality and data retention rules. The organiser may also be required to enter
data in the absence of such volunteers
7. To support membership and fund-raising activities and assist with event planning and
organisation from time to time
8. To line manage any supporting staff and interns
9. To undertake such training as is recommended to develop and update required skills
10. To undertake such other duties as the line manager may require furthering effective
communication, campaigning and organisation in the area.
Overall Aims
To support the work of the local Liberal Democrats so that:
● the local parties’ membership and volunteer base grows and thrives
● the local parties’ capacity to fight elections is increased including planning towards
future elections
● an increased number of Liberal Democrats are elected to local councils in our
respective target areas, playing our part in enabling the Liberal Democrats to retain
control of District, Borough, and future Unitary councils
● we can win South West Hertfordshire and Watford constituencies at the next
Parliamentary election

Essential
● Ability to communicate effectively with and maintain the confidence of a wide variety
of stakeholders.
● Demonstrate experience and success in planning and organising work within an
unstructured organisation.
● Demonstrate a ‘can-do’ attitude and resilience in pressured/difficult situations.
● Good digital skills and willingness to learn new software/apps and media: ability to
use a variety of specialised software (eg. desktop publishing, voter, member and
campaign databases), social media management, ability to update web sites.
● Understanding and experience of election campaigns and management.
● Ability to motivate and manage a team of people and work effectively as a team
member
● Ability to work unsupervised and effectively prioritise from a wide variety of tasks.
● Ability to meet deadlines.
● Good written and oral communication skills.
● Ability to delegate effectively.
● Sympathetic to Liberal Democrat aims and/or values
Desirable
● Track record of recruiting, mobilising and managing volunteers effectively.
● Knowledge of the local area, its politics and local communities.
● Ability to produce effective political literature.
● Ability to spot issues with campaigning potential.
● Ability to work with the local media and generate positive coverage for the party and
its representatives.
● Degree level or equivalent education or experience.
● Possession of driving licence and access to a vehicle, given the geographical nature
of Watford and Three Rivers.
