Job Title: Regional Media Officer for East of England and the Midlands

Responsible to: Deputy Head of Media - Regional and Campaigns Manager

Salary: £28,000 - £30,000

Hours: Full Time

Tenure: Permanent

Location: Primarily home based, with travel required across the region and to LDHQ

Tasks:

  • Promoting the work of Liberal Democrat MPs and the party’s policies and campaigning issues across the East of England, East Midlands and West Midlands in regional media.
  • Planning visits and photo ops for the region’s nine Liberal Democrat MPs, along with visits from senior spokespeople including the Party Leader.
  • Building a strong relationship with regional and local broadcasters in your region, along with major local print and online outlets.
  • Liaising with Liberal Democrat colleagues in your areas including local council leaders, party chairs and campaigns teams.
  • Taking part in the national media team’s out of hours duty rota.
  • Briefing the Party Leader, MPs and other national spokespeople for regional media appearances and developing lines on specific local issues.
     

Job Specification:

You will be an enthusiastic, ambitious and highly organised individual looking for a chance to shape mainstream politics, work in an exciting and fast-paced communications environment and be the lead contact point for media for the party across the Midlands and East of England.

The Regional Media Officer will be responsible for securing regional and local coverage for the regions seven Liberal Democrat MPs, and for raising the profile of other spokespeople in your region across broadcast, print and online media.

You will work closely with the Regional Media Manager to develop a strategy with a focus on broadcast coverage, getting across the party’s messaging to the region, and developing and implementing regional communications campaigns. In addition, you will be responsible for organising media for visits and photo ops from national party spokespeople including the Party Leader.

The ideal candidate will have experience as a local journalist or press officer, with a strong understanding of regional media and an existing network of media contacts in the region. You should be creative, have an eye for a good story and know how to gain excellent coverage particularly with regional broadcasters. You will also be someone who sympathises with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats and cares passionately about delivering a better future for this country.

The Regional Media Officer will report to the Deputy Head of Media and will work closely with the national media team on various tasks, including taking part in the out of hours duty rota.
