Job Title: Head of Corporate Services

Reports to: Director of Corporate Services

Salary: £51,014

Contract: Permanent, full time (37.5 hours per week)

Location: Flexible, with substantial travel required

 

Purpose of the role

You will make sure our corporate services functions are effective, efficient and meet legal and other requirements.

You will make sure staff feel part of a focused, supportive and engaged team.

You will offer expert advice and support to colleagues and the wider party on technical corporate services issues, including finance and HR matters.

 

Key responsibilities

  1. Lead and implement a strategy and plan for HR services and support including: policy & employment law, talent acquisition, retention, learning & development, compensation & benefits and employee relations.
  2. Lead on safeguarding.
  3. Lead and implement a strategy and plan for financial control and planning. 
  4. Lead and implement a strategy and plan for office locations and remote / hybrid working. 
  5. Provide expert advice on financial and HR matters to colleagues and on complex cases across the wider party as required.
  6. Lead and implement a strategy and plan for increasing staff engagement and satisfaction.
  7. Make sure we pay our people accurately and on time.
  8. Report to Committees and our Governance on relevant issues.
  9. Manage and develop staff teams.
  10. Maintain the confidence of key stakeholders to ensure the party continues to work more collaboratively than ever before, focused on growth and electoral success. 
  11. Take on any other responsibilities that are reasonably required in the role. 

 

Person specification

Essential

  1. Exceptional strategic and technical judgement.
  2. Strong ability to manage the finances of a £5m+ organisation.
  3. Strong ability to lead the HR function of a 60+ person organisation.
  4. Strong ability to communicate simply and clearly, both verbally and in writing, and adapt messages to audiences.
  5. Strong ability to plan projects and engagement activity over the medium to long term - both internally and externally.
  6. Excellent ability to adapt your approach to the working styles of different people, at all levels of seniority.
  7. Strong judgement and discretion in highly sensitive environments.
  8. Excellent ability to manage budgets and contracts.
  9. Strong ability to run payroll in house or use an outsourced payroll provider

Desirable

  1. Proven ability to work with and understand the needs of volunteers.
  2. Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats.
