Responding to the news that the Treasury has asked all government departments to draw up plans for spending cuts, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Sarah Olney MP said:

"The Conservatives are committing a slow-motion car crash with the British public in the passenger seat. 

"First, they break manifesto promises, then they present a disastrous budget, and now they plan savage cuts to local public services. Meanwhile, banks and the most wealthy corporations get a massive tax handout. 

"Liz Truss’s Conservatives have made it clear that their Government is completely out of touch and just doesn’t care."
