Reeves Budget speech: “entering the last chance saloon”

4 Nov 2025

EMBARGO: 00:01 Tuesday 4 November

Responding to reports regarding the Chancellor's speech tomorrow on economic choices and the Budget, Daisy Cooper MP, Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson, said:

"No amount of pitch rolling can hide the fact that this budget will be a bitter pill to swallow. After almost eighteen months of promising change, we are entering the last chance saloon.

"This can’t be another budget that hammers households, high streets and hospices with higher taxes whilst big banks, social media giants and gambling companies are still not paying their fair share.

“The Chancellor can no longer ignore the elephant in the room - that we must get a better deal with the EU to unleash growth for British businesses.”
